Tadashi Yanai built and runs Tokyo-listed retail clothing empire Fast Retailing, parent of the Uniqlo chain. Fast Retailing's other brands include Theory, Helmut Lang, J Brand and GU. The company reported net profit of $1.5 billion for the fiscal year ended August 2021 on revenue of $19.4 billion. Shares fell in 2021 because of rising cotton prices and lower sales in Japan and China. Yanai wants his company to become the world's largest retailer, which means it would have to surpass H&M and Inditex (parent of Zara).
